Elementary School

At Ayeyarwaddy International School, our Elementary School is a place where students are known, challenged, supported, and inspired to learn. In Grades 1–5, we build strong academic foundations while helping students become curious, confident, and increasingly independent learners.

We believe children learn best when they are actively engaged in their learning. Our classrooms encourage students to ask questions, investigate ideas, think critically, solve problems, communicate their thinking, and work collaboratively. Through engaging learning experiences in English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and specialist subjects, students develop the knowledge and skills they need for success today and in the years ahead.

Every learner is different. Our teachers get to know each student as a learner and use evidence of student learning to understand strengths, identify areas for growth, and plan instruction that responds to individual needs. Through differentiation, purposeful support, and meaningful challenge, students are encouraged to make progress from wherever they begin.

Learning at AIS is not only about what students know; it is also about how they learn and who they are becoming. Students develop communication, creativity, resilience, responsibility, and independence as they learn to make choices, take on challenges, reflect on their progress, and increasingly take ownership of their learning.

Our students also develop a strong understanding and appreciation of Myanmar and the community in which they live. Through our Myanmar program, students learn the Myanmar language as well as the country’s geography and history. These experiences help students build connections to their local community while developing a deeper understanding of the people, places, and culture that surround them.

Our teachers work collaboratively to create consistent, engaging, and responsive learning experiences. They share ideas, plan together, and work closely with learning support staff so that students are appropriately challenged and receive the support they need to succeed. This collaborative approach helps us continually improve learning and respond to what our students need.

As an international school, AIS provides students with opportunities to learn with and from people with different experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. We want our students to understand that learning extends beyond the classroom and that their ideas, choices, and actions can make a positive difference in their community and the wider world.

By the end of Elementary School, our goal is for students to be confident learners who can think independently, communicate effectively, work well with others, approach challenges with resilience, and take increasing responsibility for their learning.

At AIS Elementary, we prepare students not simply for the next grade, but to become curious thinkers, capable learners, and responsible members of both their local community and an increasingly connected world.
