One of our Expected Schoolwide Learning Results pertains to being socially and globally involved citizens. To foster this, AIS provides multiple volunteering opportunities for elementary and secondary students through the Volunteering Club, which was started in 2012.
AIS Volunteer Club members have made significant improvements in the community - not only in Mandalay, but in the nearby regions as well. The accomplishments of our AIS students are comprehensive and diverse and include providing funding, food supply, and emergency educational services for victims of natural disasters; raising awareness and much-needed funding for new primary schools for our underserved children; and participating in hospital and hospice support to provide comfort and companionship for the sickly and the elderly. One of our major activities is to host an International Childhood Cancer Day event. Held on the AIS campus, our first International Childhood Cancer Day was attended both by our community members and by citizens residing far away. The event includes inspiring personal anecdotes, musical performances, games, and various activities - all of which help to raise awareness of the tragedy of childhood cancer. Through this event, we provide much-needed relief and support to families continuing to struggle through this hardship. Another club - the newly formed Youth Habitat Club - is focusing on bringing library service and texts to nearby villages and creating eco-friendly spaces and garden areas. These efforts have been well-received and appreciated.
AIS volunteers have done, are doing, and are determined to continue doing worthy work by making the community a better place.
